Deputy Bebeto suffers possible assassination attempt in Meriti | St. Johns Wood

St. Johns Wood – Federal deputy Carlos Roberto Rodrigues, known as Veggi’s Baby (PP), suffered a possible attempt in murder, in the early afternoon of this Wednesday (1), in São João de Meriti, in Baixada Fluminense. At the time, the parliamentarian was crossing the street when two men, on a motorcycle, came towards him. A friend of the deputy reacted to the approach and shot at the criminals, leading to a confrontation. The case took place on Avenida Comendador Teles, in the Vilar dos Teles neighborhood.

Bebeto had just participated in two events in the city, together with state deputy Valdecy da Saúde, in the Venda Velha and Jardim Meriti neighborhoods. He said he left home to buy lunch for his wife, a route he has known for years, when he was approached.

“When I saw the motorcycle with two men coming, I suspected and identified that they were armed and passed by looking at me. I alerted two friends who were with me: “pay attention!” Then, the suspects climbed onto the sidewalk and came towards me,” explained the deputy.

One of Bebeto’s friends is a police officer and reacted, exchanging shots with the suspects. “My friend approached the suspects and they reacted, shooting at us. I can’t say it was an attack, since I wasn’t hit, but it didn’t seem like just a robbery. I am well known in the region. I have six councilor warrants here”, informed Bebeto. There is still no information about injuries.

The military police were called to the scene, but the crime suspects had already fled when agents from the 21st BPM (São João de Meriti) arrived. In a statement, the Civil Police reported that the victim was interviewed and efforts are underway to clarify the circumstances and who committed the crime. The case was registered at the 64th DP (São João de Meriti).

Support for parliamentarian

The state representative Valdecy da Saúde (PL) participated with Bebeto in two commitments in the city, and showed support for the parliamentarian on his social network.

“I was very sad about what happened to my friend, federal deputy Bebeto da Veggi this morning. Before, we were together on two commitments: Venda Velha and Jardim Meriti. I gave him all my solidarity and accompanied him to the police station at this delicate moment. We hope that the police clarify this fact as quickly as possible and I thank our Lord Jesus Christ for his life. Be strong, my brother! We are together!” he wrote.

The Mayor of São João de Meriti, Doctor John Ferreira also expressed support for Bebeto.

“Regrettably, our federal deputy Bebeto suffered a possible attack today, at lunchtime. He went through a huge scare, through a situation of extreme violence, in which he could have lost his life. Thank God he is fine and the teams from the 64th DP are already investigating what happened. Bebeto is a federal deputy, an authority, and I think about what happens, every day, to other people. As mayor, I feel helpless and angry that yet another sad and very serious episode like this has occurred in our city. The city hall does what it can and I have constantly asked all state and federal authorities for help to look after São João de Meriti. It is never too much to remember that public security is the responsibility of the State. We need an urgent solution! Bebeto, be safe and count on me,” he reported.
