Trial will begin for mother and stepmother accused of murder of seven-year-old boy

From Thursday, April 4th, the 28-year-old mother and her 26-year-old partner will be tried in Tramandaí, accused of the murder of the seven-year-old boy, in a case that occurred in Imbé.

They were denounced by the Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Sul (MPRS) for having beaten and killed the seven-year-old boy. He disappeared in the municipality of Litoral Norte in July 2021 and the defendants, who remain in prison, are charged with triple homicide, torture and concealment of a corpse. The qualifiers are a clumsy motive, a cruel means and a resource that made it difficult for the victim to defend himself.

The session is scheduled to start at 9 am in the Jury Hall, on the 3rd floor of the Tramandaí Forum, with live transmission on the Rio Grande do Sul Court of Justice (TJRS) channel on YouTube.

After the selection of seven jurors, early on Thursday morning, there will be the testimony of nine witnesses – starting with those for the prosecution and then hearing those for the defense – and the interrogation of the two defendants. The next stage will be debates between the prosecution and defense, with each party having two and a half hours to present their theses. After that, there is a replica of up to two hours and a rejoinder of the same time. At the end of the Jury Court, the seven jurors decide whether the mother and stepmother are guilty or innocent. If convicted, the judge defines the penalty to be applied.

COMPLAINT

In the complaint delivered to the Court on August 16, 2021, it is reported that the boy’s body had been thrown into the waters of the Tramandaí River after the homicide, which occurred between July 26 and 29 of that year. The death would have resulted from physical aggression, insufficient food, use of inappropriate medication and failure to provide health care to the victim.

Before that, between April 17th and July 25th, the two women would have subjected the child to intense physical and mental suffering, as punishment for seeking affection, care and attention. According to the complaint, the boy was locked, with his hands tied and immobilized with chains and padlocks inside a small wardrobe for long periods during one of the days in which he was a victim of the defendants. If he managed to free himself, the women tied him up again.

Still in the description of the complaint, it is stated that he was forced to eat only when the women wanted, in the same way that he was forced to do his physiological needs inside the furniture, including being compelled to clean it as punishment. Because it was a small space, the child was forced to have contact with their own feces. The boy also went through mental and emotional suffering, being forced to repeatedly write derogatory phrases against himself in a notebook, such as “I’m an idiot”, “I’m a thief”, “I’m bad”, “I’m cruel ”, “I’m evil”, “I’m no good”, among others.
