On January 21, 1986, 13 hours after birth, Pedro Júnior Rosalino Braule Pinto was kidnapped in the maternity ward of Hospital Santa Lúcia, in Asa Sul, Brasília. The case moved the country at the time and only had an outcome in 2002, when the boy, then 16 years old, went to live with his legal parents.
Today, at 38 years old, Pedro is a lawyer and is part of the defense team for Robinhoplayer sentenced to nine years in prison for a rape committed in Italy in 2013. Contacted by Estadão, Pedro said he did not want to give an interview and that he avoids contact with the press to discuss the topic. Working in the criminal area, the lawyer has also had federal deputy Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG) among his clients.
Pedrinho was kidnapped by Vilma Martins Costa and raised in Goiânia as if he were her son and that of Osvaldo Martins Borges. The lawyer was baptized with the same name as his illegitimate father, Osvaldo Martins Borges Júnior. Vilma would have simulated a pregnancy to convince Osvaldo to marry her.
It was Gabriela Azeredo Borges, granddaughter of Vilma’s husband, who suspected the crime when comparing photos of Pedrinho with images of the baby kidnapped in Brasília. She then sought out SOS Criança in Brasília. The suspicion was confirmed after a DNA test was carried out. Pedrinho later returned to contact with his legitimate parents Jayro Tapajós and Maria Auxiliadora Rosalina Braule Pinto, changing his name to Pedro Júnior Rosalino Braule Pinto and moved from Goiânia to the federal capital.
During investigations into the Pedrinho case, the police also discovered that Vilma had kidnapped another child, in 1979, Aparecida Fernanda Ribeiro da Silva. In 2003, Vilma was sentenced to 15 years and nine months in prison. She spent 14 days on the run until she was found behind a sofa at a friend’s daughter’s house, in Aparecida de Goiânia. In 2008, she was released on parole after serving a third of her sentence.
The case also inspired the soap opera Lady of destinationshown on Globo between 2004 and 2005. In it, actress Renata Sorrah plays the role of Nazaré Tedesco and kidnaps Maria do Carmo’s daughter, played by Susana Vieira.
