When participating in a treasure hunt, A man has come across what may be the largest gold nugget ever found in England. The most incredible thing is that he made the discovery in just 20 minutes while using a faulty metal detector. The piece of precious metal weighs approximately 64.8g.

“Hiro nugget”

The discovery of the so-called “Hiro Nugget” was made on farmland in the Shropshire town. “I couldn’t believe it,” said Richard Brock, who found the stone. “I arrived late, I was only there for a matter of minutes and this treasure hunting expedition was supposed to last all day,” he said.

Larger pieces of gold have previously been found in Britain, but only in Wales and Scotland, so it is still unclear how the nugget ended up in Shropshire. According to auction house Mullock Jones, the site contains an old road or railway line with “traces of Welsh stone” in its surroundings. It is possible that the gold nugget appeared on farmland after being transported along that road.

Preliminary assessments indicated that the nugget could be sold for between £30,000 (R$191,000) and £40,000 (R$254,000). But initial bids reached just £12,000 (R$76,000) before the first auction attempt closed. Despite this, the auctioneers say they still hope that the piece can be sold for a higher price. Brock said he plans to share the proceeds from the sale as the owner of the farmland where the treasure was found.
