São Paulo – In the wake of an attack against humanitarian agents in the Gaza Strip, yesterday (1st), the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, admitted this Tuesday that the Israeli Army was responsible. Seven members of the renowned NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK) died. The attack hit two vehicles belonging to the humanitarian organization that had just delivered a load of food to the Palestinian territory. “It happens”, declared the prime minister.

Among the dead were members of a rescue team. chef decorated by the North American government. The action highlights the tragedy and systemic murder of innocent people amid the conflict. WCK, founded by chef Spanish José Andrés, carries out global humanitarian work. Now, he has declared that he will stop his operations in the region after the incident.

Andrés mourned the loss of his colleagues. He stressed that attacks on humanitarian workers and civilians are unacceptable. His statement echoed international concerns about the safety of professionals providing aid in conflict areas.

Victims of Zionism in Gaza

The international community also reacted to the tragedy. Jan Egeland, head of the Norwegian Refugee Council, demanded an immediate ceasefire in the region. And he also criticized the death of humanitarian workers in a conflict that has already claimed the lives of hundreds of workers.

In addition to the WCK victims, doctors and journalists are among the main victims in the region. More than a hundred press workers have already died in Israeli attacks. This is the most lethal for these professionals in recent history, surpassing even the Second World War and the Vietnam War.

More attacks

Amid these concerns, the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, approved a controversial law yesterday. In practice, they will close the TV network Al Jazeera in the country. The decision received criticism internationally as an attempt to stifle independent coverage of the Palestinian conflict.

The United States government, Israel’s historic ally, expressed dismay at the measure, emphasizing the importance of press freedom. White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre described the law’s approval as “concerning” and reiterated the commitment to freedom of expression.

As tensions rise in the region, Israel continues to ignore UN Security Council resolutions calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Failure to comply with these resolutions may result in more severe action, including the country’s expulsion from the United Nations.
