This Monday, in Diário de República, the public tender for the first phase of the project that will create more affordable housing in Lordelo do Ouro was published. The competition includes the construction of two buildings, which, together with surrounding urban redesign work, will correspond to a municipal investment in excess of 20 million euros.

It is in the area surrounding the Neighborhood of Lordelo, right next to the neighborhoods of Pinheiro Torres, Mouteira and Condominhas, that the two blocks destined for affordable rent will be built and which mark the first phase of the public housing and urban regeneration project in Lordelo do Gold. In total, 291 homes will be built, 109 of which correspond to this start-up phase, the management of which is the responsibility of Domus Social.

One of the blocks to be built at this stage is the Building E, which will have 91 dwellings: 52 T1, 26 T2 and 13 T3. The building stands out from the municipal housing standard due to its height, as it will have 16 floors, 14 of which are above the threshold level. The exposed brick is the main expressive element of the facades, an option made by architects Filipe Madeira and Vânia Saraiva – FMVS Atelier de Arquitetura.

The other block to be erected, the Building C, will include a private vegetable garden, five building floors and a parking floor. The project, signed by Francisco Pina Cabral, Francisco Amoedo Pinto, Luís Vitorino Caleiro and Maria de Souto de Moura – Sombras Verticais Arquitetura Lda., foresees that the new building will have 12 T1 homes, three T2 homes and three T2 homes. T3, in addition to five spaces for commercial purposes.

Both projects should begin in the second half of this year, with a completion period of 25 months.

Implementation of the Municipal Climate Change Adaptation Strategy

With regard to objectives related to energy efficiency and sustainability, both projects adopted strategies and solutions that contribute to the implementation of Municipal Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. Evidence of this effort is the option for roofs for photovoltaic energy production, the optimization of light and natural ventilation, and the application of efficient water use solutions, such as reuse, use of rainwater and adoption of green roofs.

In an area with a high incidence of social housing, this project by the Municipality of Porto aims to promote mixing and social cohesion and create a city in the Lordelo do Ouro area.

Once all phases have been completed, the subdivision in Lordelo do Ouro should consist of five buildings. For the construction of the remaining lots, the municipality of Porto plans to invest around 40 million euros, for a total investment of more than 63 million euros.
