O Afghanistan is the most repressive country in the world when it comes to women, girls and girls. The Taliban regime, which returned to control of the country in 2021, denies them the most basic rights, from health to education to their own means of subsistence. Tajala managed to escape this hell and come to one of the safest countries in the world: Portugal. Throughout the interview, she highlights several times that one of the things that impresses her most about our country, besides the landscapes and the climate, is the kind way in which the Portuguese treat her and each other. She stoically endured almost 4 hours for the production of this article (with extraordinary photos by João Lima and styling by Patrícia Pinto), always with a smile and a great desire to tell her story and draw attention to the cause of Afghan women. Come and discover his story of courage and how he came to us, an adventure full of dangers but with a happy ending.

“My father took me to Kabul airport to leave the country, but the Taliban had closed all the access gates and there were thousands of people waiting. We decided to go home and try it in the afternoon. It was our luck because a few hours later, exactly where my father and I had been, a bomb exploded, leaving hundreds of people dead and injured. I didn’t want to go back there and I had to find another way to get out of Afghanistan.”
