FNAM asks the new Government for an urgent meeting to combat “chaos in the SNS”

-

A National Federation of Doctors (FNAM) requires urgent negotiations and has already sent the request to the new Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins. Doctors believe that it is necessary to avoid the chaos scenarios experienced last year.

On the day the health minister took office, FNAM sent a letter asking for urgency in negotiations in the health sector.

“Taking into account the chaos in which the National Health Service is currently [SNS]we understand that it is very urgent to start negotiations as soon as possible”, warns the president of FNAM, Joana Bordalo Sá.

Ana Paula Martins’ first words as minister were to announce a 60-day emergency plan, which will be presented on June 2nd.

“There is great expectation regarding the emergency plan and it is good that there is that expectation, but this is not the day to talk in detail. We will analyze it and discuss it in our Government”, said the new Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, this Tuesday.

The FNAM demands measures that guarantee family doctors in the National Health Service (SNS), timely consultations and surgeries for all Portuguese people.

The new minister faces demands that remained unanswered by the previous government, namely the valorization of medical careers and the recovery of the NHS.
