Spotify increases subscription prices in some countries this month

O Spotify is planning to increase subscription prices in some countries. The measure could come into force as early as April. For now, Portugal should not be affected.

According to Bloomberg News, plans can increase by up to 2 dollars per month, in countries like Australia, United Kingdom and Pakistan.

Prices must also be updated in U.Sits largest market, throughout this year.

The streaming company will also create a plan, which includes music and podcasts but does not include audiobooks, for around $11, the same price as an individual premium plan.

Cost reduction

In December last year, the world’s leading audio platform company announced a reduction of around 17% of workers to reduce costs.

“To align Spotify with our future goals and ensure we are adequately sized for the challenges ahead, I have made the difficult decision to reduce our total headcount across the company by approximately 17%,” wrote CEO Daniel Ek in a letter to the group’s employees.

Despite the layoffs, in October, the music platform had announced a return to operating profit, after several negative quarters.
