The Pestana Group held its annual results presentation at the Pestana Palace Lisbon, in which it was announced that the average price per night in its hotels around the world increased +9.5% to 144.2 euros in 2023, when compared to that of 2022.

“It is healthier to grow there than by quantity”, stated José Theotónio, CEO of Grupo Pestana, regarding the increase in the average price by 9.5% in 2023, when compared to 2022, to 144.2 euros.

Exclusively for hotels in Portugal, the average price was slightly lower, 142.1, +8.9% than in 2022.

José Theotónio indicated that the United States market, which is the one with the greatest growth within the group, is felt especially in the upscale segments, “it is one of the markets that makes us raise prices”, added the CEO, explaining that they are customers who make more reservations in suites and master rooms.

Another North American market, Canada, is also growing, according to the group’s CEO.

Despite the natural preference for price growth, the occupancy rate at Pestana hotels in 2023 also increased by +3.9%, to 67.7%, when compared to 2022, with the occupancy rate at Pestana hotels in Portugal was 68.8%, +3.4%.

In relation to sales channels, direct sales continue to represent 30% of sales volume, as in 2022, while the sector dedicated to corporate represents 18%.

Operators have a 41% share of sales volume, with emphasis on booking.com, with a 20% share, the same as in 2022, which is followed by Expedia, with 6.6%, having grown by 3.6 points, and Hotelbeds, with 3.3% and a slight increase of 0.3 points. In 2022, TUI represented 6% of sales at Pestana hotels, just below booking.com.
