The heavy truck market in Brazil remains strong in 2024, with Volvo and Scania consolidating themselves as the leading brands in sales.

In the first quarter, models from both brands they occupied 5 of the top 10 positions among the trucks that sold the most in Brazil.

Volvo vs Scania – which trucks sold the most in Brazil?

The best-selling heavy truck in the country in the first three months of the year was the Volvo FH 540, with 1,872 units, representing 13.6% of the segment.

Second in the ranking, the Scania R 450 Plus, which sold 1,329 units. With this result, it has a 9.66% share in the quarter.

In third place was the DAF XF 530, which sold 323 units in March and 1,107 in the quarter.

Among the highlights are the Scania R 540 Plus, which went from sixth position in February to fourth position in March. There were 170 units in February, compared to 484 units registered in March. In total for the quarter, the model totaled 947 models sold.

Volkswagen Truck and Bus leads truck segment

Despite the hegemony between heavy trucks from Volvo and Scania, VW Truck and Bus continues to lead the truck segment, as it also includes light and semi-heavy trucks.

In the year to date, the VW Truck and Bus has 25.27% of the segment. Mercedes Benz comes second with 23.28% of the market, followed by Volvo with 18.06% of the market and Scania with 16.08%.

In fifth place is DAF with 8.63%. In sixth, IVECO with 6.64% and Foton with 0.4%. The other brands together account for 1% of sales.

Despite being behind in overall sales, Volvo and Scania together hold 40.7% of heavy truck sales in the year to date.

In the accumulated of 2024, sales of heavy trucks grew, representing 54% of the sector’s total sales. In the same period of 2023, the category represented 48.5% of registrations.
