Man ‘fishes’ for objects that could help prove guilt in couple’s death

-

UA man ‘fished out’ some objects that will reinforce murder charges against a couple in the US state of Georgia. The case took place in 2015, but has already been postponed more than once, and is expected to begin in August this year.

According to CBS News, a man was fishing with a magnet in Telfair County on April 14 when he pulled out a shotgun. Two days later, the unidentified man returned to the same location and ‘fished out’ a bag containing a cell phone, the victims’ driving licenses and credit cards.

The objects found were enough for authorities to obtain a search warrant for a house in Telfair, which, according to police, helped to obtain additional evidence – which was not detailed.

At issue is the death of Bud and Hune Runion, a couple who were robbed and killed in the region. According to authorities, the couple’s bodies and car were discovered in three different locations. Although it is not known whether the murder weapon matches the one that was found, authorities detailed that the caliber of the murder weapon and the one recently ‘fished’ are the same.

The couple, from Atlanta, reportedly drove three hours to the location, after being tricked by the suspect, Ronnie Adrian ‘Jay’ Towns. The couple was looking for a classic car and the suspect lured the elderly there, with promises that he had a 1966 Mustang.

The first trial of ‘Jay’ Towns was postponed due to problems related to the way the jury was selected, with this issue being resolved in 2019. The 2nd trial was postponed with the appearance of Covid-19, after this plead innocent.

The suspect’s lawyer did not respond to questions from CBS News, but prosecutors were happy with this new evidence. “It was already a good case, but this makes it even better”, explained one of the prosecutors, referring to the reinforcement it gives to the accusation.
