The Brazilian surfer João Chiancaknown as Chumbinho, is ready to return to competition after a serious accident in Pipelineat the Hawaii. After months of recovery, John will make its first competitive appearance in 2024 during the Gold Coast of Challenger Seriesat Australia, as announced by the portal AOS Media.

The accident occurred in December 2023, when John collided with the coral bottom of the beach after falling into Pipeline. The incident left him hospitalized for a period, but he is now determined to get his career back on track.

Due to the absence in the elite stages of world surfing in 2024, John failed to qualify for the mid-season cut. Therefore, he will need to compete in the Challenger Series with the aim of returning to the elite next year. Furthermore, the Brazilian surfer is one of six representatives of Brazil us Paris Olympic Gamesscheduled for July.

The stage of Gold Coast is scheduled to take place between April 27th and May 4th. João will not be alone, as 18 other Brazilians will also be present, including 15 men and four women, making Brazilian participation quite significant in the event.
