The retired military police officer who had his body devoured by his own dogs after dying on a farm in Pirenópolis, on the outskirts of the Federal District (DF), lived alone on the rural property and kept six dogs for company, as reported to the Earth delegate Tibério Martins.

“The farm where he lived is difficult to access, far from the city, with no close neighbors. Clédio lived isolated, and his friends noticed his absence in the last few days, which led them to start the search for him”, explained the delegate.

Martins reported that Clédio Vilela Cardoso, 53, last contacted his family on April 10, at night, via cell phone. After this period, they were no longer able to contact him, which raised concerns about his whereabouts. When looking for him at his farm, they found his body on the porch of the house on the weekend, the 21st.

“The body was lying next to a table, where there was a notebook with some notes he had made and the car key. The lights were on, which suggests that the incident occurred at night. He probably suffered an illness suddenly and fell from the chair next to the table. There is no evidence of violence at the scene, there is no blood on the floor and nothing was taken from the residence”, explained the delegate.

According to the police authority, with the PM’s death, Clédio’s dogs had been without food for weeks. “The dogs went without food for a long time and started to feel very hungry, so they devoured their owner’s body due to hunger. We believe that as there were no blood marks at the scene, the body was devoured a few days after death, because that way it would already be all clotted, it would probably already be a stiffened body”, explained Martins.

Despite the absence of signs of violence at the crime scene, forensics will determine the cause of death and the time elapsed since death. “We will analyze the material collected at the scene, including the braincase, to estimate the time of death. We will also examine whether there are signs of external violence,” said the delegate.

Clédio, who was 50 years old and was in the Military Police reserve, had been facing difficulties since the loss of his son in an accident in 2019. “He began to have mental health problems after his son’s death and lived as a recluse on the farm,” he added. the delegate.

The investigations are still ongoing, however, so far, everything indicates that the death was caused by natural reasons. “We will investigate all the details to rule out the participation of third parties. But, everything indicates, so far, that it was actually a natural death”, concluded Martins.
