The Paraná Symphony Orchestra debuts a series of concerts in May with Brazilian and international guests. The so-called Gold Series includes the four symphonies by German composer Johannes Brahms until September. Rehearsals began this week. There will be eight presentations, with Thursday night’s program being the same as the following Sunday morning. In each cycle, Brahms’ work will be accompanied by that of another romantic composer: Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Liszt and Hekel Tavares.

The first performance of the “Cycle of Four Symphonies of Brahms” will be on May 9th (Thursday), at 8:30 pm, in the Bento Munhoz da Rocha Neto auditorium (Guairão). In the program, “Symphony No. 1” joins “Concerto No. 1” for piano and orchestra by Frederic Chopin, with Russian soloist Dmitry Shiskin. The same program will be presented on Mother’s Day, on Sunday (12), at 10:30 am.

The four soloists invited to perform with the Paraná Symphony Orchestra are world-renowned. Dmitry is one of the greatest pianists in the world of his generation. He was born in Siberia and studied at the traditional Gnessin Moscow School of Music. He then attended the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, the Vincenzo Bellini Conservatory in Italy, and the Musikhochschule in Germany. He has collaborated with the Russian National Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.

On June 6th and 9th, the guest is Brazilian violinist Guido Sant’Anna, who has just won the Fritz Kreisler international competition, in Austria. “It is one of the most important violin competitions in the world. He will play Tchaikovsky’s concerto, which is one of the most famous in literature for violin concertos”, says maestro Roberto Tibiriçá, musical director and chief conductor of the Paraná Symphony. He has performed in Brussels, Vienna, Madrid, London, Moscow and Berlin.

“Symphony no. des Champs Elysées in Paris, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and Carnegie Hall in New York. She also has a famous YouTube channel with more than 700 thousand subscribers.

The last concert in the series, on September 26th and 29th, will have Brazilian pianist Cristian Budu on the Guairão stage. He won the Clara Haskil International Competition, in Switzerland, one of the most important by a Brazilian pianist in recent years. He has soloed with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Orquestre de la Suisse Romande, Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra and Mendoza Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also performed as a soloist in venues and festivals around the world.

GOLD SERIES – The conductor of the Ouro Series will be conducted by maestro Roberto Tibiriçá. “One of the objectives of the initiative is to mark the return of night concerts. And we decided to do a cycle of Brahms’ four symphonies, which are the most iconic works in the romantic repertoire of a symphony orchestra. They are played by orchestras anywhere in the world,” he explains.

“In the first concert we will have Chopin; then we have the Tchaikovsky concerto, which is a romantic for violin. Finally, there will be two Liszt piano concertos and the Hekel Tavares concerto, which is the only romantic concerto written for piano by a Brazilian composer”, he details.

ORCHESTRA – The Paraná Symphony Orchestra is maintained by the State Government and is part of the artistic bodies of the Centro Cultural Teatro Guaíra.
