After the accident that killed the passenger of a pickup truck on BR-277, in Balsa Nova, Metropolitan Region of Curitiba (RMC), the concessionaire informed that the section should gain an escape area. The information was confirmed, this Thursday (25), in response to Band B about a question raised by a truck driver who witnessed the accident.

The accident happened at kilometer 128 of the highway. According to the concessionaire, the concession contract provides for the construction of the escape area approximately at kilometer 129 + 300.

Truck driver Alexandre Araújo, who was transporting gasoline, said that his vehicle was very close to not being hit in the accident. Always passing through the stretch, the driver said that he had been encountering accidents for a long time, many of them fatal.

In the truck driver’s opinion, there is no escape area there. The equipment could help in cases similar to this week.

“There’s even a place to make an escape area and it’s always on this same curve. People die here all the time, how long will that last? How many lives need to be taken here? I escaped, if it hits me it would explode my tank, how many people would to die?”

said Alexandre Araújo.

When contacted, the concessionaire Via Araucária, responsible for the stretch since February 28th of this year, informed that, according to the concession contract, the construction of an escape area in São Luiz do Purunã is planned, “to be completed by the sixth year of operation”.

According to the company, “road safety is a priority for the concessionaire and, since February 28, when the concessionaire’s operational activities began, it has made significant investments in highway repairs, such as pavement repairs, implementation of metal defenses and improvements in horizontal and vertical signage, with a special focus on the most critical points”.

Via Araucária also told Band B which is committed to developing the Accident Reduction Program (PRA), which is supported by a multidisciplinary team.

“This program includes detailed mapping of critical points, aiming to promote inspection and preventive engineering actions. All of these measures are coordinated in advance with the inspection body, thus ensuring regulatory compliance and the effectiveness of the initiatives”

Tragic accident

The tragic accident happened on Tuesday night (23). The passenger of a Hilux pickup truck died instantly after traffic stopped and a truck driver was unable to brake in time, tipped over and the coils he was carrying came loose. One of them fell on the truck.

Businessman Aronildo Bueno da Silva, aged 53, known as “Pacheco”, was the passenger in the Hilux who died instantly. In addition to him, two other people, the driver and another passenger in the truck, were injured. One of them is the businessman’s son and the other is a friend.
