After a trial that lasted around 17 hours, the Porto Alegre Jury Court sentenced former military police officer Alisson Fernando Frizon to 28 years in prison, under a closed regime, for the shooting murder of his ex-wife. The crime, which occurred in 2018, left the victim’s son, then 12 years old, as an eyewitness to the tragedy.

The defendant was found guilty of qualified homicide for a base reason, which made it difficult for the victim to defend himself and for gender reasons. Since December 12, 2018, the killer has been detained, and the court decision still allows appeal.

At the trial, 11 witnesses were heard, including the defendant. The feminicide occurred on the night of December 11, 2018, in an apartment in the South Zone of Porto Alegre, where the victim, Michele Barbosa Pires, aged 35, lived. The crime was motivated by the defendant’s refusal to accept the couple’s separation.

The tragic outcome of this domestic violence case highlights the ongoing need to combat femicide and protect victims of gender-based violence.
