Father about son’s death in wrong-way car: “Murder”

The father of Wesley da Silva Pereira, the 17-year-old teenager who was hit by a Fiat Argo on the wrong side of the road, says his son’s death was a “murder”. The boy was on a Honda Pop 110 motorcycle, driven by Maria Vieira Sandro, 59 years old, when they were surprised by the vehicle that rolled over on the AL-485, in Feira Grande, this Friday morning (26).

João Pedro Português, Wesley’s father, is unhappy with his son’s death and claims to be living a “nightmare”.

“Honestly, I think I’m in a nightmare. Because I had plans for my son. Everyone in the region considers him a good person. Losing your life as brutally as he did, practically a murder, because I consider it a murder and not a traffic accident, because he killed my son on the wrong side of the road”, says José Pedro in an interview with TV Gazeta.

Marcelo da Silva, the teenager’s uncle, remembers one of the last conversations he had with Wesley.

‘This week he was talking to me, he came to my house, to talk to me so I could lend him a card to buy a ring to get engaged to his girlfriend”, recalls the uncle.

The Civil Police have already begun investigating the causes of the accident. According to the criminal expert, Édson Júnior, in a first analysis it was possible to verify that the speed traveled by the driver of the passenger car was incompatible with that allowed in the location, whose maximum limit was 60 km/h.

According to the expert, the car entered the wrong lane, hit the curb, overturned, hitting the motorcycle on which Wesley and Maria were riding. The vehicle then ran over the motorcycle and the two victims, causing numerous fractures.

“When he impacted a tire, this caused the rim to come into contact with the asphalt surface, producing a loss of control. It overturned, broke a pole, continued overturning, impacted the motorcycle, passed over the victims, causing a large number of fractures, including exposure of the intestinal loop, viscera in the male victim and severe cranial depression. The female victim also had a sinking skull, and the rollover continued, then assuming the final resting position”, explained the criminal expert.

Still at the scene of the accident, the Official Forensics says they found beer cans and a can of energy drinks. Information from witnesses indicates that the driver of the Fiat Argo was returning from an Emancipation party in Feira Grande. There were four other people in the car. Everyone was taken to the Agreste Emergency Hospital.

The section where the accident occurred was marked with a sign prohibiting overtaking.

Wesley’s father asks for justice. “Driving in a car is like driving with a gun in your hand, which you can pull out and kill anyone. I ask for justice for my son and for everyone who is murdered in this way,” said the man.

Wesley lived in the District of Massapé, in Feira Grande, in the Agreste of Alagoas. When the weekend approached, he would wake up early in the morning, around 3am, to kill chickens and then go to a poultry farm, where he worked and helped the owners. One of these owners was Maria.

The two were going to the fair to work when the accident occurred, around 5am. According to Maria’s nephew, Edivaldo Araújo, the woman used to go to work by car, but this time, she went on a motorcycle and gave Wesley a ride.

“She went to work and, normally, she went by car, but today she went on a motorcycle. And unfortunately that happened. The pain is great, the penny hasn’t sunk in yet, but cling to God and strength for those who remain”, says Edivaldo.

The bodies were released from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) at the end of the day and the burial will take place this Saturday afternoon (27), in the Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro cemetery, in the District of Massapé, in Feira Grande.
