This project, which involved several national entities, is promoted by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Human Trafficking Observatory and was launched in March 2022.

Two years later, the results and proposals of an initiative that aims to improve prevention and identification strategies and outline targeted and personalized assistance, protection and integration programs for victims of sexual exploitation will be presented.

According to the Human Trafficking Observatory, the project’s central objectives were to “evaluate victimization systems that are especially aggravated in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as new forms of violence against women and girls on digital platforms”, increase the knowledge about the nature of sexual exploitation and sociodemographic characterization of victims and aggressors.

Evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of national mechanisms for preventing, signaling, identifying, assisting and protecting victims of human trafficking was another objective of the initiative.

The project’s closing seminar will be attended by the ministers of Youth and Modernization, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, and of Internal Administration, Margarida Blasco.
