A domestic cat was accidentally sent by a couple from Utah, USA, in an Amazon return box to a house in California, more than 1200 kilometers away. Galena, the cat, got into the package without anyone noticing, and ended up being trapped in the package for seven days, without access to water and food.

According to Carrie Clark, the owner, Galena had been missing since April 10, and throughout the week, family and friends were looking for her in the surrounding area, even sharing photos on social media, according to KSL TV. The American woman also confessed to the newspaper that Galena loved playing with boxes, and that she got into one without anyone noticing.

“Galena is a huge emotional support to me and has helped me a lot through health issues over the past six years,” said Carrie Clark. “The anxiety and stress of not knowing what had happened to him was excruciating,” she added. However, on April 17, Galena’s owner received a notification about the cat’s chip, informing her that it had been examined. Later, she received a call from a veterinarian in California. “At first I didn’t believe it, I thought it was a prank,” she said.

The cat was found by an Amazon employee, Brandy, in one of the company’s warehouses, who noticed that Galena had a microchip and took care of her until she took her to the veterinarian the next day. When Carrie Clark found out, she asked to speak to Brandy, thanking her for staying with Galena. “She was very happy to know that we really liked Galena and that we were looking for her,” she told the North American newspaper.

Carrie and her husband ended up traveling to California the next day, with food, Galena’s stroller and towels that “smelled like home”, so the cat wouldn’t be scared. “It was a spectacular reunion. Galena instantly stopped shaking and relaxed in my arms when I held her again. Despite being thinner and a little dehydrated, the blood test was normal and she was completely unharmed.“, he said.
