The Azorean executive (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM) justifies the “adjustment of the maximum public sale price” of fuels with “the recent variations in the international market in reference prices for petroleum and energy products”.

From May 1st, gasoline will cost 1.567 euros per liter in the Azores, 5.7 cents more than in April, while diesel will remain at 1.435 euros per liter.

It is the third consecutive rise in the price of gasoline, updated at the beginning of each month in the region, by a total of 12 cents, after a drop of 18.6 cents in the previous four months.

Diesel rose by 3.6 cents per liter in March and April, after having registered a drop of 16.9 cents in the previous three months.

Fuel oil with a sulfur content of less than or equal to 1%, classified by CN codes 27101951 to 27101962, when intended for other consumption, supplied in bulk at the premises of distribution companies on each island, increases from 0.643 to 0.666 euros per kilogram.

The one classified under CN code 27079999 goes from 0.657 to 0.681 euros per kilogram.

Butane gas sold in bottles, piped or in bulk maintains its price, varying between 1,348 euros per kilogram (in bulk) and 1,618 per kilogram (24 liter bottle, made of light materials, sold to the public, at the point of consumption).

The maximum prices of petroleum and energy products in the Azores are “changed on the 1st of each month and in amounts equivalent to the variation in the value of the monthly Europe Price (PE).

In March 2023, the Azorean executive increased the Tax on Petroleum and Energy Products (ISP) rate by 10 cents, justifying the decision with “a tendency towards normalization of fuel prices on the world market, to values similar to those before the crisis geopolitics provoked by the war in Ukraine”.

ISP is charged 46.5 cents per liter for gasoline and 24.2 cents for diesel.

The ISP in the Azores had been lowered, in August 2022, by nine cents on gasoline and 11.3 cents on diesel.

The Azorean executive had already reduced the ISP by four cents on gasoline and two cents on diesel, in November 2021, and by 11 cents on both fuels, in April 2022.
