Dog that lost an eye during a dog attack at a pet hotel remains hospitalized in Acre

The Doce Patinha veterinary clinic, at the center of a controversy following the death of two dogs that were attacked while boarding, denied that the animals had been sheltered on the unit’s premises and that, in fact, they were left in the clinic owner’s house as a personal favor to their guardian.

After the death of the two dogs, owner Luciana Vogel states that she left the animals under the clinic’s responsibility.

According to the unit, however, the animals were left at the house of Simone Florêncio, with whom Luciana has a close relationship as she has been a client for a long time. The clinic denies that it was a service provision, and claims that the stay was a personal favor. The unit also denies that it provides hotel services for pets. (See the full note below)

“The request for residence and reception of the animals was, in fact, a personal request from Ms. Luciana Vogel to Ms. Simone Florêncio, who agreed to host the animals in her residence, due to the proximity between the parties”, stated the establishment through a publication on social network.

O g1 was unable to contact Luciana this Tuesday (30), however, also through a social network, she commented on the publications made by the clinic. She again stated that the establishment provided accommodation services, and said that legal measures are already being taken.

“Only I know how special my daughters were to me, and if a person is unable to provide a clandestine service or not, let them not open or provide such a service. I will never want anyone to feel what I’m feeling, I left my daughters perfect and one didn’t even have a way to say goodbye [sic] and the other I received in a box”, he stated.

Regarding her proximity to the clinic owner, Luciana stated that she met Simone in 2018 and says that she heard from Simone herself that she could provide the hosting service. Still according to Luciana, she doesn’t even know where the owner lives and who delivered the dogs to the clinic.

“If Doce Patinhas is a veterinary office, why [sic] my daughters were sent there… [sic] because [sic] I have already paid more than R$7,000 because the person responsible disappeared. I can’t take it anymore seriously [sic]I’m the only one who lost in this story…”, he said.

Third injured dog remains hospitalized

Bella, a shih-tzu dog, who survived the dog attack at the pet hotel in Rio Branco about 12 days ago, remains in hospital recovering. The animal lost one of its eyes in the attack and needed blood donation.

In addition to Bella, the dogs Crystal and Chanel were also attacked and died at the veterinary clinic. The animals belong to civil police officer Luciana Vogel. This week, the public servant revealed that the place where she left the dogs was the Doce Patinha veterinary clinic.

“Due to the great repercussion about what happened and fearing that this will happen to other pet families, I inform you that the place was Doce Patinhas and that the person responsible, Simone Florêncio de Matos, did not pay anything”, said Luciana on a social network.

The civil police officer also contacted the State Public Ministry (MP-AC) and filed a complaint against the establishment for mistreatment. She also highlighted that she received information that her dogs were attacked by pitbulls at the veterinary clinic.

Of course it’s not the pitbull’s fault, but it wasn’t a fight between them, it was a big dog [que as atacou]. We received reports that she [dona do estabelecimento] breeds large animals, pitbulls, boxers and Belgian shepherds, he said.

Luciana spoke with the g1 by messages. She also accused the owner of the establishment of not covering the costs of Bella’s treatment. “She did not take a position or give any explanation, nor did she cover any expenses”, she criticized.

Blood donation campaign

The death of the two dogs and Bella’s hospitalization touched many people and gained repercussions in the capital of Acre. On Friday (26), Luciana started a campaign to raise blood for Bella.

The dog drank 320 ml of blood and several animals were taken to the clinic to donate blood for her. “Only one dog donated to her, however, several made themselves available. Four showed up there looking to give Bella life”, he celebrated.

On a social network, Luciana made a post explaining that she needed to travel for 11 days and decided to leave the dogs with someone she trusted, as she believed it was the best, because one of them was already 11 years old and would need greater care.

On April 18, when she was about to return home, she received a call from the pet hotel informing her that Bella and Crystal, two of her three dogs, had an inflammation that caused their eyes to bulge.

The person responsible for the space told her that she didn’t know what had happened, as she had left and there were no cameras in the place.

Luciana then asked her sister to check what had happened and, upon arriving at the scene, she realized that they were practically in a coma. The dogs Crystal and Chanel died at the veterinary clinic and the third, Bella, lost an eye. A fourth animal would also have been injured, according to Luciana.

The owner said that she received some photos sent by her sister and even blamed herself for taking the animals to the place. The public servant also explained that the worst thing about the death of her “companions”, as she called the dogs, is knowing how much they both suffered.

“They were not just part of my family, but they were a source of unconditional love, joy and companionship. There was an immeasurable void”, he concluded.

Note from the Doce Patinha clinic

The Pet Shop and Consultório Veterinário Doce Patinhas, through its legal representative, is publicly speaking out about the articles published in the Acre press, about the incident that occurred on April 18, 2024, which culminated in the tragic death of the dogs Crystal and Chanel .

Right away, it is extremely important to clarify that the incident did not take place on the premises of Pet Shop Doce Patinhas, as we do not work with animal boarding services, operating only in the field of grooming, bathing and selling products for pets:

At no time did the animals enter the commercial establishment, and Ms. Luciana Vogel was fully aware that the animals would be staying at Ms. Simone Florêncio’s personal residence for 12 (twelve) days, while she was on a personal trip.

The request for residence and reception of the animals was, in fact, a personal request from Ms. Luciana Vogel to Ms. Simone Florêncio, who agreed to host the animals in her residence, due to the proximity between the parties.

The Pet Shop and Consultório Veterinário Doce Patinhas, rejects any attempt to link the image of the establishment to what happened, because as stated, the events did not take place on the premises of the establishment and the location of the animals, as well as the exact location of the events, were always of knowledge of Ms. Luciana Vogel. We regret what happened and make ourselves available to the authorities to prove the allegations, as well as to Ms. Luciana Vogel, for further clarification and support at this difficult time for everyone.

The Doce Patinhas Pet Shop and Veterinary Clinic has been in the market for over 7 (seven) years and has always based its professional conduct on the most auspicious principles, treating each animal with lots of love and respect, being a reference in the Acre trade.
