The Samu team was called and tried to revive the pilot, but his death was confirmed minutes later

A man flying a paraglider died after falling after taking off from the José Paulino dos Santos Free Flight Ramp, at the top of Serra da Viúva, in Santana do Paraíso. The victim is Maximillian Martins, 51 years old, known as “Max”, resident of Alto do Boa Vista, in the Canaãzinho neighborhood, in Ipatinga.

The accident happened in the early evening of Tuesday (30). According to acquaintances of the victim, the pilot had little flying experience and took off in the late afternoon.

For reasons still unknown, he remained in the air until early evening, when he fell to the asphalt, at MG-232, close to the landing site at the Serra da Viúva interchange.

The Military Police team, as Diário do Aço found, was called to deal with the case and was informed by members of the public that Max’s fall occurred at around 6pm. Police began controlling traffic on the state highway.

Samu professionals, who were already at the scene when the police arrived, tried to revive the pilot, without success. Civil Police expertise was called and, after the expert’s work, Maximillian’s body was sent to the IML in Ipatinga by the on-call funeral home Uni e Paz.

The pilot’s flight equipment and personal belongings were handed over to a friend of the victim who was at the scene monitoring the work of rescuers and military police officers.
