Republican angers White House by calling for death of Biden’s dog

The White House bared its teeth this Monday (6) at a Republican governor who asked that President Joe Biden’s dog be euthanized, days after she revealed that she shot her dog dead because it was “indomitable.”

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Donald Trump’s possible 2024 running mate, said Biden’s German shepherd, Commander, should suffer a similar fate to her dog for biting several Secret Service agents.

“His comments yesterday strike us as worrying and absurd,” said White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre. “This is a dog-loving country and you have a leader talking about euthanizing dogs,” she added.

For the spokesperson, Noem “should probably stop digging her own grave.”

The 52-year-old governor caused a stir in the United States when she stated in her memoirs that she shot Cricket, just over a year old, and killed her because she was “indomitable”.

“I hated that dog,” he said. Her anger towards the animal was because Cricket had ruined a pheasant hunt by being overly excited. Noem also blamed her for the deaths of chickens.

The governor claims that, if she reaches the White House with Trump in the November elections, she will have “Commander meet with Cricket”.

“Joe Biden’s dog has already attacked 24 Secret Service people. So how many people does he have to attack and seriously injure before a decision is made about a dog?” Noem asked on a CBS program on Sunday.

Commander was sent to live with Biden’s family after the two-year-old German shepherd, who arrived at the White House in 2021 as a puppy, had trouble adapting and bit at least 11 Secret Service agents.

This isn’t the only part of Noem’s new book that has provoked discomfort. She was forced to retract her claim that she had met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
