Accident that killed Rafael Yared and Carlos Murilo turns 15: ‘Hope to meet you again’

-

In 15 years, how has your life changed? How much has the past made you who you are and where you are today? Perhaps many of us have these answers easily, but not the mothers of Gilmar Rafael Yared and Carlos Murilo de Almeida. On the night of May 7, 2009, both of their lives were taken in a traffic accident. This accident marks 15 years this Tuesday (7).

In 15 years, the trial of the driver who caused the accident and, consequently, the two deaths, has already taken place. Even after 33 appeal attempts, former deputy Luiz Fernando Ribas Carli Filho was convicted of homicide with possible intent, when he assumed the intention to kill.

On the day of the accident, Carli Filho was driving the Passat Variant at 173 km/h before crashing into the Honda Fit driven by Rafael Yard. The two boys, aged 26 and 20, did not even have the chance to react and try to escape death.

Grief and hope

15 years after her son’s departure, Christiane Yared made a publication with a strong outburst. According to her, time is relentless, it takes away the smell, the joy, the moments of communion, the wonderful reactions of surprise, the space that was his, but not the love.

“Transforms the pain of revolt into acceptance and longing. There is nothing to do! And the time that makes me understand that there is no return, also gives me hope of meeting you again”

wrote Christiane Yared, Rafael’s mother.

Christiane, who led a fight for justice for her son and became a symbol of the demand for more rigor in traffic deaths, is now a federal deputy. Life has changed a little, but not enough to not feel like giving up.

“Often the desire to stop and give up makes me rethink everything. Talking helps, sometimes it doesn’t! Crying helps, but sometimes it doesn’t”

said Rafael’s mother.

According to Rafael Yared’s mother, in all these years, the only way out he found was prayer.

“It connects me with God and help comes. I have taught mothers who are experiencing this pain that the presence of the Holy Spirit gives us peace and certainty of reunion. It will always be one day after another, one year after another, but it is passing”

commented Christiane Yared.

In 15 years, Christiane considered that “life is passing by”, and in this she lives. But with the certainty and hope of a reunion.

“I’ll see you soon, son! I still love you. Time can’t erase this”

Christiane concluded.

Carli Filho

Carli Filho’s trial took place in February 2018, after nine years, as the former deputy’s defense presented 33 appeals, the last of which to the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Gilmar Mendes, in an attempt to remove the Curitiba jury.

Initially, the former deputy was sentenced to 9 years and 4 months in a closed regime for homicide with possible intent, when he assumed the intention to kill, as requested by the prosecution.

In December of the same year, the First Criminal Chamber of the Court of Justice of Paraná (TJ-PR) reduced the sentence to 7 years, 4 months and 20 days, for the two deaths. As a result, Carli Filho did not spend a single day in prison.
