A Apple renewed its line of tablets this Tuesday morning, 7th, during the event Let Loose. The company presented the new version of iPad Pro, the brand’s most powerful and expensive line, in addition to presenting improvements for the iPad Air and showing new versions of the Magic Keyboard keyboard and the Apple Pencil stylus. With prices starting at R$7,000, the most powerful model of the iPads launched this Tuesday can reach R$31,500, with 2 TB of storage. Review the event here:

The event has generated expectations since the announcement for the possibility of revealing Apple’s AI tools on iPads – or, at least, offering a hint of what could be seen at the brand’s developer conference, the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC)which takes place in June.

It was also expected that the new launches would help to excite the iPad market again: in Apple’s latest financial report, the company’s tablet segment saw a 17% drop in sales revenue year-on-year.

The iPad Pro came with smaller edges on the screens and, according to Apple, it is the thinnest product the brand has ever made. The device also has two sizes, 11 inches and 13 inches, just like the iPad Air, and comes in silver and gray.

This is the first time that the iPad Pro’s screen has reached 13 inches – previously it was 12.9 inches. The 11-inch version is 5.3mm thick, while the 13-inch model is 5.1mm – making it thinner than the iPod Nanolaunched by the company in 2005.

One of the main new features is that the company changed the composition of the panel, using a technology called Tandem OLED, which uses two overlapping OLED panels to boost brightness. The technology can lead to a peak of up to 1,600 nits of brightness, making the colors and definition of images clearer and of higher quality. It is the first time that the company has adopted Oled panels on its tablets, a type of screen that the company calls Ultra Retina XDR. Until now, the screens were LCD.

The company also made a leap in the processing of the iPad Pro: from M2 chipthe device now has the M4 processor, launched by Apple at the event. The M4 is Apple’s most advanced chip to date and uses second-generation 3-nanometer technology. It has 4 performance cores, 6 efficiency cores and 10 GPU cores.

The chip also has the neural engine, dedicated to processing AI activities, for example. According to Apple, the M4 can offer 4 times more efficiency than the M2 chip.

The rear camera remains 12 MP, in addition to the LiDAR depth radar and an adaptive flash. The front camera was moved to the side to be at the top in horizontal mode, as if it were a notebook camera. Apple also stated that the iPad Pro uses AI to identify and scan documents.

Storage options start at 256 GB and go through 512 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB versions. The user can also choose, at the time of purchase, a personalized screen option, called “nano-texture glass”. This screen offers a more opaque effect, like a matte film covering, instead of the traditional glossy glass screen.

“Using a precise nanometer-scale engraving process, nano-texture glass maintains image quality and contrast while dispersing ambient light to further reduce reflection,” Apple said of the new finish.

Anyone who wants the new device, however, needs to be prepared to shell out a small sum. In the 11-inch version, the simplest model, with 256 GB storage, conventional glass screen and Wi-Fi, the product costs R$13,000. The most powerful configuration of the device, with 13 inches, 2 TB of storage, nano-texture glass screen and Wi-Fi+ connection chip, costs R$31,500.

iPad Air arrives in new size

The first new feature announced by Apple at this Tuesday’s event was the iPad Air. Despite being overshadowed by the Pro version, the device brought an important update: it is the first time it hits the market in two sizes – 11 and 13 inches, with the larger screen being new to the line. It will be possible to find four colors, following the colorful line of pastel tones that the company has adopted in recent years: blue, pink, beige and gray.

The camera was repositioned to be placed in horizontal mode, as if it were a notebook, which already happens on the 10th generation iPad, for example. The tablet also won the M2 chip, which guarantees 50% performance compared to the M1. The M2 is the same processor present in the company’s Macbooks launched in 2022.

The device is available in 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB storage options and, unlike the Pro version, it does not have the option of a nano-texture glass screen. Thus, the simplest model of the iPad Air, with 11 inches, 128 GB of storage and Wi-Fi costs R$7,000. The most advanced configuration possible, with 13 inches, 1 TB of storage and Wi-Fi + connection chip costs R$17,100.

A new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro was also announced. With few changes, the device gained new keys to bring it closer to a Macbook keyboard. In addition to a new row of function buttons, the accessory has also become thinner compared to the previous model, launched in 2020.

The new keyboard also has an aluminum body, which allows for a more pleasant sensation when using the device together with the iPad. The Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro (M4), as it is being identified, is not compatible with other Apple tablet models, only with the versions launched this Tuesday.

Available in black and silver, the keyboard for the 11-inch iPad Pro costs R$3,300 and the 13-inch version costs R$3,800.

The Apple Pencil now has a Pro version, with a sensor at the tip of the pen that can have personalized commands. Similar to what happens with AirPods, it is possible to click or hold on the device to change the command – in the company’s example, it was possible to change the writing brush, the colors of the pens and even the type of lighting in an illustration just using the command on the tip of the Apple Pencil.

Furthermore, a tactile response is emitted whenever the user uses the function, to indicate the change in movement. The new pen is slightly longer than the Californian company’s most recent model, the Apple Pencil 2nd generation, launched in 2023 and is also compatible with iPad Air models.

The device also has a configuration to be found by Find My, Apple’s object monitoring application – the app is the same one used to configure the AirTag and to notify the location of other company devices.

There is still no expected start of sales, the Apple Pencil Pro is already on the company’s website and will reach the Brazilian market for R$1,500.
