After an increase of 200 reais per 60 kg bag, equivalent to 20%, throughout the month of April, coffee prices began falling in May. According to data from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), in just three business days this month, devaluations have already reached 12% for Arabica coffee, equivalent to 149.45 reais per bag, and 15.8% for Robusta coffee, reaching 179.06 Reais per bag. This represents the loss of more than half of the gains made in April.
With these drops, the CEPEA/ESALQ Indicator for Robusta coffee once again closed below R$1,000 per 60 kg bag. Regarding the harvest of the 2024/25 Arabica coffee harvest, Cepea employees report that in some regions of the South of Minas (MG) and Garça (SP), some volumes were removed, and it is expected that the pace of activities increase in the second half of May.
