At the end of this afternoon, several young people from Gaia and Portugal will perform at the Kilden Performing Arts Center, in Norway, as part of the Norwegian National Youth Orchestra.

This will be the second time that violinists Lourenço Ribeiro, from Gulpilhares, and Inês Carmona, from Grijó, participate, and this time they will be guided for an hour and a half by artistic director Johannes Gustavsson, who will conduct Mahler’s 5th symphony, as well as the newly written work Epitaph by Rolf Gupta of Kristiansand.

Mahler’s symphony goes through several emotions, from the initial solitary phase in minor that leads to a sad march, followed by the sound of strings and harp, the Adagietto, which is an intimate declaration of love to Alma Mahler, and a full joyful finale that culminates in D major.

Already the epitaph, written in memory of the victims of the massacre on the island of Utoyain Norway,in 2011, it was written to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Youth Orchestra.

In this youth symphony, ‘Ungdomssymfonikerne’, which normally performs five productions per year, spread over eight to 12 concerts, around a hundred music students are gathered, and at least Beatriz Tomas, from Loures, Joana Teixeira, from Braga, and Bernardo Sousa, from Lisbon.

On July 31st, the Orquestra da Costa Atlântica, which includes the two Gaienses and other Portuguese artists, will begin a tour of China, under the baton of Luís Miguel Clemente, until September 15th.
