The military allegedly used a private car, with insulation film, for an illegal police operation. According to the Ministry, on the day of the murder, the police officers “jointly fired several firearms at Thiago and a man who accompanied him”.
The crime was for a bad reason. The complaint says that the police officers’ conduct also made it difficult to defend the victims, who were on a motorcycle and were surprised by the shots. The agents would have used rifles, high-energy and restricted-use weapons.
Remember the case
The episode occurred on August 5th of last year. Thiago was hit on Estrada Miguel Salazar Mendes de Moraes, on the corner of Rua Jeremias, at the entrance to the Cidade de Deus community, in Jacarepaguá.
The family says running. According to Thiago’s uncle, Hamilton, his nephew was riding a motorcycle with another teenager when, on a corner in Cidade de Deus, they were surprised by police shots. Thiago would have fallen to the ground with a gunshot to the leg and would then have been executed, his uncle alleged in an interview with the press. The family is based on a video from the security camera of the establishment opposite what happened.
PM stated that police officers were attacked. The shooters were from the Riot Police Battalion and “were carrying out policing”. “After a confrontation, a teenager was found shot and did not survive his injuries. A 9mm caliber pistol was seized at the scene”, says the PMERJ note.
