Porto Court applies ‘heavy’ sentences for the death of Igor Silva

-

This afternoon at the Court of São João Novo, Porto, the reading of the judgment took place for Marco ‘Orelhas’, his son, Renato and his brother-in-law, Paulo Chanfra, for the death of Igor Silva, murdered with 18 stab wounds in Porto, next to the Estádio do Dragão, during the Porto club’s celebrations in May 2022.

The sentences imposed were 18 years in prison for Marco Orelhas and his brother-in-law, and 20 years in prison for Renato “for not recognizing the value of life”, as judge Isabel Teixeira said.

‘Orelhas’ companion, Marisa, was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison, and Iara and Cassandra to 1 year in prison, sentences that may be suspended if compensation is paid to the victim’s family.

In turn, the defendants Diogo Meireles, Rui Costa, Sérgio Machado and Miguel Pereira were acquitted.

The Court found that there had been a climate of conflict between Igor and the ‘Orelhas’ family since January.

Regarding the claim for compensation, the Court explains that the young man’s mother “is a sad person, with no desire to live” and that the son was very attached to his mother.

The judge also stated that the images from the videos were important in determining the truth of the case, since several of the defendants’ testimonies did not correspond to the videos that the court has in the case.
