MP accuses driver involved in the accident that caused Claudisabel’s death

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) charged the 49-year-old man who was driving the car involved in the road accident that caused the death of the singer Claudisabel with negligent homicide and drunk driving.
The accusation against the driver, as part of the investigation that investigated the circumstances in which the accident occurred, was disclosed by the MP in a statement published today on the website of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the District of Setúbal.
Claudisabel, artistic name of Cláudia Isabel Leiria Madeira, died following the collision between two cars that occurred in the early hours of December 19, 2022, on the Autoestrada do Sul (A2), near Alcácer do Sal, in the district of Setúbal.
According to the indictment, to which the Lusa agency had access, the defendant, driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident, had a blood alcohol content corresponding to the rate of 1.95 grams per liter.
Before the accident, according to the dispatch, both drivers were traveling in the north/south direction of the A2, occupying the right lane, with the singer’s car traveling in front of the vehicle driven by the defendant.
“Because he was driving in an inattentive and careless manner, the defendant did not exercise the necessary care when driving the vehicle”, having “collided with the front of the right side” of his car into the “back of the left side” of the vehicle of the singer, describes the document.
After the collision, explains the MP, Claudisabel “lost control of the vehicle” she was driving and it went “into a skid followed by overturning towards the vacant land on the right side of the road”, until it was immobilized.
According to the prosecution, the singer, at the time of the accident, was not wearing a seat belt.
As for the speed at which they were traveling at the time of the collision, the MP estimates that the car driven by the defendant was traveling at 124 kilometers per hour, while Claudisabel’s car was traveling at 59 kilometers per hour.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office requests the defendant’s trial by a single court.
In the statement, which was published after the television station TVI reported the accusation, the MP writes that the defendant was accused of the crime of negligent homicide and driving a vehicle while drunk.
“The investigation was led by the DIAP Public Ministry [Departamento de Investigação e Ação Penal] of Setúbal, local unit of Grândola, with the assistance of the National Republican Guard”, can also be read in the document.
