Quercus classified 356 beaches as golden quality beaches, however 38 fewer than last year.
Of the total, 291 beaches are coastal, 55 inland and 10 transitional, with the majority being located in the Tagus/West and North regions.
With regard to declines, the Algarve and also the Tagus/West region record the biggest declines, due to persistent levels of pollution.
Quecrus guarantees that it will be attentive to these pollution episodes throughout this year.
A beach to receive the golden beach award requires: excellent water quality in the five previous bathing seasons, analyzes with normal reference values throughout 2023 and no ban on bathing during the past year .

The bathing season will gradually open in the country, as follows:
on May 1st, in the bathing waters of the municipality of Cascais and in some of the Autonomous Region of Madeira;
on May 15th, in the municipality of Albufeira;
on June 1st, in most bathing waters in the Center and South of the country;
on June 15, in most bathing waters in the North;
In inland waters, the beginning of the bathing season occurs between June and July.
