Former Nigeria international, Ibrahim Babangida, died this Friday following a road accident. Ibrahim’s older brother, Tijani, also a former international for the “Super Eagles”, was also involved in the accident and is hospitalized in critical condition.

According to the local press, the tragedy occurred in a location in the city of Kaduna. Although the causes of the accident are yet to be determined, the newspaper “The Punch” reports that the car was still in the car with his wife Tijani, her son and a maid, who were transported to the hospital.

Under-17 World Champion for Nigeria, Ibrahim, aged 47, died at the scene of the accident. For his part, Tijani, 50, was an AA international on 36 occasions, having participated in the 1998 World Cup and the 1996 Olympic Games. He played for clubs such as VVV-Venlo, Roda, Ajax, Vitesse and Al Ittihad, among others.

Furthermore, the Amsterdam team left a message for Tijani Babangida as soon as they heard the tragic news. “Our thoughts are with Tijjani Babangida and her family,” wrote Ajax on Twitter.
