Jacques Costa joined the rest of the contestants in the Big Brother house

The moment came when Jacques Costa finally met all of his housemates. The competitor stopped being isolated in the leader’s room as a Big Brother infiltrator and joined the rest of the competitors. Entry into the room was triumphant.

Before the big moment, the host made the announcement: «There was an infiltrator in the house, during the first 48 hours of the game this person was able to watch everything that happened in the house and from everything they saw they certainly had a lot to say. And it was time to enter the house. Move forward!».

After all, what is a non-binary person? See the clarification from Jacques Costa’s team!

Jacques Costa is one of the 20 contestants on Big Brother 2024 and identifies as non-binary.

The competitor has been talking and one of the doubts that has arisen most is the fact that she wants to be addressed by “her”.

This Monday, March 25th, the competitor’s team issued a statement with a clarification via Jacques’ Instagram social network page.

After all, what does it mean to be a non-binary person?

“Being non-binary is a gender identity that does not fit exclusively into traditional concepts of male or female. Non-binary people can identify as both genders, neither, or as something completely different. It is a unique expression of who they are and deserves to be recognized and respected like any other gender identity. Pronouns are a fundamental part of a person’s identity. They are the way we refer to others and show respect for their identity. Using the correct pronouns is a simple, but powerful way to recognize and validate someone’s gender identity», can be read in the statement, which explains the main characteristics of being non-binary.

Why are pronouns important?

“Non-binary people can choose a variety of pronouns, including “she,” “he,” or neutral forms like “elu.” However, the Portuguese language faces challenges in non-binary communication”, adds the note issued, and the publication ends: “How can we support Jacques? It’s simple: respect the pronouns chosen by Jacques (she/her). This means using the pronouns she prefers, like herself, and avoiding using pronouns that don’t match her gender identity. Furthermore, we must educate ourselves about diverse gender identities and promote an environment of respect and inclusion».

Finally, the competitor’s team thanked the support given in recent days and assured that it will continue to «celebrate its authenticity».
