QWhether on television or through the news, the truth is that almost all Portuguese people are becoming aware of what is happening on ‘Big Brother’. Not everyone sees it, but the names and faces of the competitors end up reaching a good part – even when the edition is less than a week old.

From this new season, there is clearly one name that stands out: Catherine Miranda. The 25-year-old participant from Almeirim made a big splash in the format and stole all the attention. She quickly became hated by many and tolerated by very few, even though she never tires of highlighting that her main objective is to take home the 100 thousand euros. Create friendships? This is not on the priority list.

Whether the position will go as expected, we will only know until the appointments are made. For now, and according to the first popularity ranking, Catarina received a ‘red card’ from the spectators and was sent to the bench (in this case, to sit in the last position of the table).

Going back a little, to the debut gala, in addition to Catarina Miranda’s name, there were two others that gained particular attention. From the outset, it is worth highlighting the Daniela Ventura, who in 2022 converted to Islam, which helped her find “the balance in life”. To the spectators, before entering, and to her colleagues, already inside the house, she has sought to demystify myths associated with this religion, having always been listened to by everyone with the greatest attention.

On social media, Daniela was even praised by Rita Pereira. “I became a fan of Daniela. We will learn so much about her religion and customs. Respect will be the most important thing”, wrote the actress in a story shared on social media.

In addition to Daniela’s name, also Jacques Costa has been repeated countless times. She is the first non-binary person to enter the ‘most watched house in the country’ and at the first gala, in a conversation with Cláudio Ramos, she made it clear that she wants to be addressed with female pronouns.

The following Monday, the topic was discussed on ‘Dois à 10’ and it was there that a controversial comment from Luísa Castel-Branco appeared. “If a person is neither male nor female, are they a cat?”, noted the writer, among other things.

We also know that social networks are increasingly paying attention to what is happening in ‘Big Brother’ and that is how a conversation between Jacques and Catarina Miranda, who we already mentioned above in this text, became viral. Jacques tried to explain to his colleague that he wants to be addressed as ‘her’, something that left Catarina confused. To try to understand, she asked new questions and the moment, considered very funny by countless people, gained several likes and shares in a short time.

Also regarding the fact that Jacques Costa wanted to be addressed with feminine pronouns, it was issued a statement on the competitor’s official page that seeks to clarify this same issue, raised in the program’s comment spaces and, of course, on social media. Jacques’ representatives emphasize that “non-binary people can choose a variety of pronouns, including ‘she’, ‘he’ or neutral forms like ‘elu'” and that to support Jacques you just need to “respect the chosen pronouns”.

Looking back at the debut gala, it is important to highlight the first participation of Francisco Monteiro and Márcia Soares as commentators, places that in previous editions belonged to Flávio Furtado and Bruna Gomes. O Fame by the Minute was at the TVI studios and spoke with Francisco, who clarified the relationship he maintains with Márcia, and with Cláudio, who addressed the fact that he was “proud” of the diverse range of competitors.

For all the emphasis given to the new edition of ‘Big Brother’ throughout the week, Fama ao Minuto highlights TVI’s reality show as being the Theme of the Week.
