Striker Viktor Gyökeres is in doubt for Sporting’s visit to FC Porto, from the Portuguese First Football League, revealed today the coach of the ‘lions’, Rúben Amorim, in the preview of the match on the 31st round.

“Matheus Reis is not fit, Antonio [Adán] is not fit and Viktor [Gyökeres] There is a problem there, he will be called up, but he is still in doubt for the game”, said Amorim, without providing details regarding the Swedish international’s illness.

Viktor Gyökeres is Sporting’s top scorer this season, with 41 goals scored in 51 appearances and leads the table of top scorers in the championship, with 24 accurate goals, one of which against FC Porto, in the first round match, which the ‘lions ‘ they won 2-0, on the 14th round.

Regardless of the striker’s availability, Rúben Amorim recalled that Sunday’s match will be played “in a completely different context” to the previous one, when the two teams entered the field with the same points, at the top of the standings.

On Sunday, Sporting takes to the Estádio do Dragão pitch isolated at the top of the I League, with 18 points more than the ‘dragons’, who remain in third place, but the coach of the ‘green and whites’ guaranteed that the classification “ does not reflect” the difference between the two teams.

“Sometimes, with defeats, draws [em jogos] where we are dominant, we start to create a gap and for teams that are used to winning it is much more difficult to turn around these situations. Therefore, I don’t think it even remotely reflects the quality of the teams”, commented Amorim.

Furthermore, the coach recalled, a classic between Sporting and FC Porto “always has great meaning, “regardless of the classification” and Amorim knows what awaits his team when they visit Estádio do Dragão.

“It will be the most difficult game of the championship. We know what club it is, we know its coach [Sérgio Conceição], the pride he has and the pride of his players. They are not in the fight, we are, we want to win and we still have to score six points to be champions. We want to do it as quickly as possible and that’s the focus”, pointed out the ‘Leonine’ coach.

Sporting visits FC Porto on Sunday, in the 31st round of the Portuguese Football League, scheduled to start at 8:30 pm, at Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, and refereed by Nuno Almeida (AF Algarve).

The team coached by Rúben Amorim leads the championship with 80 points, seven more than Benfica, and can become national champion if they beat FC Porto, as long as today Benfica loses to Sporting de Braga, at Estádio da Luz.

FC Porto remains in third place, with 62 points, as many as Braga, and both teams depend on the Minho team’s success in Luz to maintain a mathematical chance of still reaching second place.
