Rui Rio, the former president of the PSD and former mayor of Porto, will be one of the faces of the new television channel Now, from the Medialivre group.

The former social democratic leader thus joins António Costa in the range of protagonists of the group’s new information station, which also owns Jornal de Negócios, CM, CMTV, Sábado, Record, Flash and Máxima, among other titles. He will be the protagonist in a program on the Now channel.

“I accepted this invitation, because I identify with the purpose of this new TV channel, which aims to raise the quality of public interventionlooking for collaborators with experience, maturity and without specific agendas of their own”, says Rui Rio, adding that “the challenge is to be able to live up to this commitment, so important for a healthier evolution of the regime, which is now celebrating its half century of existence “. To Negócios, the editorial general director of Medialivre, Carlos Rodrigues, adds that “Rui Rio is someone with a well-known path and strong ideas.” “He will certainly contribute to Now’s positioning being suitable for a demanding public in sectors such as economy and politics”, he highlights.

The new News Now channel will focus on quality and reference information for the most qualified audiences, focusing on political and economic issues, the great challenges of civilization, such as global warming or Artificial Intelligence, and international information, with particular focus on Europe. The project will also focus on digital information.

To Expresso, Carlos Rodrigues had also stated that Now “will be a different channel, which gives a voice to protagonists and specialized journalists”. “We don’t want commentators, which today is a very worn-out function. We won’t have ‘everything experts’. Today public opinion is greatly influenced by people who haven’t been scrutinized, who aren’t specialized in the matters they talk about. Politics is debated as if football debate. This will not be the channel for debates about everything and nothing, but for specialists and specialized analysts.”
