Amit Soussana, a 40-year-old Israeli lawyer and hostage, revealed that she was sexually assaulted while imprisoned by Hamas. “With the gun pointed at me, he forced me to commit a sexual act,” said the woman, adding that the guard identified himself only as Muhammad.

Amit said in an interview with New York Times who was sexually assaulted, beaten and tortured while held hostage in Gaza for 55 days.

She stated that she was kept alone in a child’s room and chained by the ankle. She further said that a few days after she was captured, Muhammad began questioning her about her sex life and menstrual cycle.

To the New York Timesthe woman revealed that one day the man unchained her, took her to the bathroom and ordered her to take a shower.

While taking a shower, the lawyer remembers hearing the man’s voice near the door. Then she turned around and found him with the gun in his hand watching her. “He sat me on the edge of the bathtub. I closed my legs and resisted. He continued to punch me and pointed the gun at my face,” she told the newspaper.

“Then he dragged me to the bedroom,” he added. Amit alleged that, in the bedroom, Muhammad forced her to perform a sexual act, then left her naked and sitting in the dark.

According to the New York TimesAmit reported the alleged assault and other acts of violence to two doctors and a social worker after she was released during a ceasefire in November.

Hamas spokesman Basem Naim, speaking to New York Timessaid it was “difficult to believe” the woman’s report of sexual abuse and added that for them “the human body, especially a woman’s, is sacred.”

For months, the terrorist group has denied that its members sexually abused people in captivity or during the October 7 attack.
