In a joint statement – ​​issued after the visit to Pakistan by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who today traveled to Sri Lanka, the next stage of his trip – both governments asked the United Nations Security Council “to prevent the Israeli regime from its adventurism in the region and its illegal acts, attacking its neighbors and targeting foreign diplomatic installations.”

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both countries “expressed their firm and unequivocal condemnation of the Israeli regime’s continued aggression and atrocities against the Palestinian people, along with the inhumane blockade of Gaza, which has resulted in widespread deaths and destruction , as well as the displacement of millions of Palestinians.”

They defended the need for an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access to the besieged people of Gaza, the return of displaced Palestinians, as well as ensuring accountability for crimes committed by the Israeli regime”.

The joint statement is the result of Raisi’s three-day visit to Pakistan, in an attempt to improve diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries following the military attacks they exchanged last January.

The visit took place at a time of high tension in the Middle East, after Iran launched a massive attack with more than 300 drones and missiles against Israeli territory last weekend, in retaliation for the bomb attack, attributed to Israel. , to the Iranian consulate in Damascus, on April 1st.

In the statement issued today, this attack is labeled as an “unacceptable violation” of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and is illegal under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
