Around 30 Ukrainians have died while trying to illegally cross the Ukrainian border to avoid being called up since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022, the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine said on Tuesday.
Speaking to the Ukrinform agency, Andri Demchenko specified that These illegal crossing attempts occur dailymost of them outside the checkpoints on the border with Moldova, while the largest number of attempts to cross with false documents are registered on the border with Poland.
Demchenko expressed surprise that people were willing to pay large sums of money in exchange for help crossing the border. They then have to face a route that runs along a mountain river.
“Many realize that they do not have the strength to cross a river or cross the mountains and that is how some have lost their lives, in addition to the danger from wild animals,” he added.
The spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine also indicated that Since the beginning of martial law, around 450 criminal groups specializing in human trafficking have been discovered across the border.
