  • ‘Doomscrolling’. This is a term that defines the excessive time that many spend looking for negative content on social networks or social media. Alyssa Mancao, a therapist, explains that “consuming this information has a very negative impact” when you are trying to calm down and can worsen anxiety and interfere with the quality of sleep”;
  • Thinking about past or future problems. Doing this can “effectively reinforce the cycle of anxiety,” says Erica Basso, a psychotherapist;
  • Engaging in stressful arguments or an argument. “Talking to someone who is focused on unpleasant things or discussing something stressful can have a negative impact on your body. You may not even realize it, but your body and mind may start to absorb the negative feelings,” warns Kristin Meekhof, co-author from ‘A Widow’s Guide to Healing’.
