UAn armed man entered the Dwelling Place Church of Jesus, in North Braddock, Pennsylvania, United States, on Sunday, pointed a gun at the priest, while he was giving a sermon about the “enemies of God”, and pulled the trigger.
However, what happened next may have been divine intervention. “He pulled the trigger and a miracle from God happened. The gun was jammed.”said the priest, Glenn Germany, cited by the Associated Press.
The shooter “attempted to fire, but the gun did not fire,” the Pennsylvania State Police said in a statement.
The incident in North Braddock was recorded and the video was broadcast live by the church. After the frustrated shooting, a church member knocked the suspect down.
The man, identified by police as Bernard Junior Polite, 26, was detained after being disarmed and restrained by members of the congregation.
It is unclear why the suspect tried to shoot the priest. Glenn Germany said he had never seen him before Sunday.
After the man’s arrest, authorities went to the suspect’s home and found the body of a 56-year-old man. Authorities have not commented on the relationship between the victim and suspect.
Polite told authorities that it was God who ordered him to commit that crime and that, when he shot the priest, he “expected to be arrested” so he could go to prison and clear his mind.
The suspect is accused of numerous crimes, including aggravated assault and attempted murder. The case is under investigation.
