Artist and entrepreneur Kdu dos Anjos, 33, born and raised in Aglomerado da Serra, in Belo Horizonte, will present his project “A Casa no Pomar do Cafezal” at SXSW – South by Southwest, one of the biggest innovation and creativity events in the world. world, which takes place from March 9 to 12, 2024 in Austin, capital of the US state of Texas.
Affectionately nicknamed “my shack” by him, who works as manager of the cultural center Lá da Favelinha, the house was the second work carried out by the LEVANTE collective, which brings together architects, students and engineers, led by Fernando Maculan and Joana Magalhães, focusing in thinking about solutions for architecture in the periphery. The project uses materials typical of the periphery, with adequate implementation and attention to lighting and ventilation.
The house was elected Building of the Year 2023 by the website ArchDaily, one of the biggest references in architecture in the world, as reported a report by O TEMPO at the time.

At SXSW, Kdu dos Anjos will participate in the panel “What is the future of cities in the new climate scenario?”, on March 10, Sunday, when he will share his experience and vision about the role of vulnerable territories in the construction of solutions to the environmental and social challenges of the 21st century.
The presentation by Kdu, one of the main names in peripheral entrepreneurship in Brazil, who he even tattooed the house on his own skinis part of the programming proposed by Casa São Paulo SPXP, an initiative that aims to showcase the diversity and potential of Brazilian culture at SXSW.
