The Public Ministry’s request was made because the law does not allow the use of public funds to pay tribute to people who are still alive, which is the case of Daniel Alves. That’s why the withdrawal was made this Monday (29).

The monument was inaugurated in 2020, but since Daniel began to be tried for the crime of sexual violence in Espana (in 2023), his statue has been vandalized a few times by residents who disagreed with the tribute paid by the city hall.

The work is a life-size replica of the player wearing a Brazilian national team shirt and has always generated controversy. Later this year, after the statue was vandalized once again, a city resident went viral on social media when she was filmed cleaning the monument.

A few months ago, some residents had been asking for the tribute to be removed, which led to the Bahia MP process beginning, which ended with the statue leaving the site.

Recently, Daniel Alves was granted provisional release by paying a bond worth 1 million euros, around R$5.4 million. The player served 14 months of his sentence, in a closed regime. Now, the Brazilian awaits the analysis of the appeals, which were requested shortly after his conviction.
