Arthur Vianna Public Library forgives fines for those who return overdue books

-

During the month of March, when it celebrates 153 years of its foundation, the Arthur Vianna Public Library is fully paying fines for users who return overdue books. The space is located on the second and third floor of the headquarters building of the Fundação Cultural do Pará (FCP), in Centur, in Belém, with service open to the public from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 6pm, and exceptionally to Saturdays this month, from 9am to 1pm.

The objective of the action is to make the specimens available again in the collection and, at the same time, bring back visitors who stayed away due to the fines. Since the beginning of March, more than 100 books have been returned in the action.

FCP librarian Simone Rabelo explains how the allowance works. “Users who are overdue for a book, whatever the period, will have the benefit of delivering it with no fine. Furthermore, they will be able to lend it again. We hope to receive as many books as possible and, above all, bring the user back back to the library,” he said.

To borrow books at the Arthur Vianna Public Library, the user must register in person in advance, providing ID, CPF and proof of residence.

The period in which a reader can keep the book is defined as follows: general public and employees – loan of up to two books, with a maximum period of 10 calendar days; teachers in general – loan of up to three books, with a maximum period of 10 calendar days; elderly people and people with mobility difficulties – loan of up to two books, for a maximum period of 14 calendar days.
