Netflix attacks shared accounts again! And it won’t stop anytime soon

-

There has been a lot of talk about Netflix’s move to ban shared accounts for a long time. The company has been announcing it for several months, but there were users who had not yet received the notification, or it was only activated sporadically. But it looks like Netflix is sending out warnings again.

Netflix continues to bet against shared accounts

If we are connected to a device “away from home”, it is necessary to approve the login with a temporary code, although the exact functioning of this code still raises some doubts.

Despite the negative reaction to the initial announcement that shared accounts would end, Netflix continues to invest in this measure. Both this announcement and the new fees and price increases did not affect a platform's accounts which appears invincible and increasingly dominant in the face of competition.

Contrary to the dubious financial results that Warner or Disney present quarter after quarter, with huge drops in subscriptions, Netflix continues to “fatten” its accounts with more customers and more profits.

Love is no longer sharing a password

Gone are the days when “Love is sharing a password”, as https://twitter.com/netflix/status/840276073040371712?lang=es Netflix on X. And the truth is that the platform would, without a doubt, make its predictions and studies before taking a step like this, which earned it so much antipathy.

In the first quarter of 2023, the platform added just 1.75 million new subscribers, which represents a drastic reduction compared to the 7.66 million recorded in the last quarter of 2022. However, the platform was growing 4.9% and forecasts were outrageous, with revenues of 8.2 billion dollars. A year later, a few weeks ago, Netflix announced extraordinary results.

The secret is that, as Netflix communicated to its shareholders that same month, “as users who used to use shared accounts begin to activate their own accounts and existing members add 'extra member' accounts, we see acquisition and revenues increase“.

In other words, the total number of new users may decrease (at first), but the situation stabilizes in your favor. This could be one of the reasons why, from January 2025, they will stop giving total subscriber numbers, so as not to send the wrong message to the media that this number is decreasing, since the profits are elsewhere.
