Wendy Williams’ constantly wide eyes in the documentary shown on the American channel Lifetime reveal that there is something very wrong with her health.

She appears unrecognizable. Little remembers that fun presenter with sharp humor who ran a successful talk show for 13 years. She is fragile, confused, vulnerable.

Both episodes contain scenes recorded over several months. The channel’s management states that it was unaware of the seriousness of the communicator’s condition, but the effects of two incurable neurological diseases were already clear.

She was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and primary progressive aphasia. In both cases, the person suffers serious cognitive and behavioral changes. The ability to communicate is also affected.

Wendy seems withdrawn into a world of her own, disconnected from reality. “She’s gone,” says one interviewee, referring to the star everyone admired. “Do you think I’m crazy?” asks the presenter herself.

The financial issue is highlighted in Lifetime’s production. Despite having accumulated a fortune of 20 million dollars, around 100 million reais, Wendy says she no longer has a penny. Where did all that money go?

A fan of luxury, the artist never saved money to support her Hollywood lifestyle. She spent it on clothes, shoes and jewelry. Treatments for recurring health problems were expensive. The divorce from her second husband took another significant part of the dollars, as did alcoholism.

In 2022, she had to step away from television. Officially, due to an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. In fact, due to the first signs of dementia. Overnight, she lost the million-dollar salary she received from the CBS channel.

A court decision prevents her from having access to her bank accounts. The little that remains of the assets – equivalent to R$2.5 million – is under the management of a financial guardian.

In July, Wendy Williams will turn 60. According to the US press, she is living in a nursing home. Eventually, she receives a visit from her only son, 23-year-old Kevin. The family believes in “cure”, however, the doctors say that the artist will never be the same.

The presenter’s situation raises the necessary discussion in society about serious neurological diseases. Previously seen as ‘crazy’ and treated with prejudice, those with these pathologies deserve respect, care, and medical and therapeutic resources. It can happen to any of us.
