Portugal closed with a fourth place, achieved by Marco Meneses in the 400 meters S11 style, participation in the European Open Paralympic swimming, which ends this Saturday in Funchal, a competition in which the Portuguese won three medals.

Marco Meneses, who on Friday won the silver medal in the 100 meter backstroke S11 (visual impairment), finished the final of the 400 meter style in 4.38.25 minutes, destroying the national record that belonged to him (4.43.74), 37 hundredths behind Ukrainian Danilo Chufarov (4.37.88), who won the bronze medal.

The winner of the event was the Dutchman Rogier Dorsman, who clocked 4.26.57, leaving Funchal with six gold medals and one bronze, with the Czech David Kratochvil achieving silver (4.33.78).

In the final of the 100 meter backstroke S10, won by the Dutch Olivier van de Voort, with a time of 58.24, the Portuguese João Fidalgo and Tomás Cordeiro were sixth and seventh classified, with times of 1.03.88, and 1.04.96, respectively.

Portugal, which was represented by seven swimmers, finished the competition with 13 national records and a total of three silver medals, won by Diogo Cancela (200 styles SM8, and 100 butterfly) and Marco Meneses (100 backstroke S11).

The two swimmers, who have practically assured their presence at the Paris’2024 Paralympic Games, had already won medals in two editions of the World Championships.
