The Court of Barcelona, ​​Spain, sentenced Daniel Alves to four years and six months in prison for the rape of a 23-year-old woman in a nightclub in the city, in addition to five years of supervised release after serving the sentence, being prohibited from communicate or approach the victim. The crime occurred in December 2022, days after the player participated in the Qatar World Cup with the Brazilian team.

After the conviction in the Barcelona Court, Daniel Alves’ case will still be evaluated by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia. Both parties may appeal to the Supreme Court of Madrid, the highest body of Spanish justice. The victim’s lawyer classified the decision as a “scandal” and promised to appeal.
