Emma Stone (Poor Creatures) surprises fans and asks them to use her real name

Emma Stone has remained on fire since winning the Oscar for best actress in 2024.

Actress and producer Emma Stone said this week in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the name she uses is her professional name, or stage name, and that her co-workers don’t call her that. Instead they call her by her first name, or birth name.

Fielder, the actor with whom she co-stars in the comedy series “The Curse”, stopped the interview to state that it is difficult to call her by any name other than Emma: “Before we continue, I would like to say something. Her name is Emily but she professionally goes by Emma. So when people don’t really know her I say Emma. But I’m going to start saying Emily from now on.”

The winner of this year’s Best Actress Oscar, in the film “Poor Creatures”, responded to the interviewer stating that he could call her whatever he wanted. When the interviewer asked her if she would correct any fan who called her by her own name instead of Emma, she replied: “No. It would be really good. I would like to be Emily.” Emma Stone explained that the name Emily had been taken from her professionally by another actor from the SAG-AFTRA union.

“A few years ago I started to worry a lot about this. For some reason I thought ‘I can’t do this anymore. Call me by my name, by Emily. Nathan calls me Em because it’s easier.’ In another interview, in 2018, for the program “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, Stone mentioned the origin of the name Emma in her childhood: “When I was a child, I was super blonde (…) I wanted to be called Emma because of Baby Spice (…) It wasn’t specifically because of her but if in second year I asked my teacher to call me Emma? Yes. What if it was because of Emma Lee Bunton from the Spice Girls? Yes it was”.
